Two Roads

Image“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and sorry I could not travel both.” Robert Frost.

Proverbs chapter 9 discusses two opposing roads or ways. The first is the way of wisdom and the second is the way of folly. Both of them are calling out to men and women everywhere to follow them. But the question remains, which one will you choose?

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.

Concerning the first road Solomon instructs that those who are wise are to be teachable, always learning. If you want to be wise you must learn to have that loving respect and fear of the Lord and to pursue knowledge of God. this knowledge comes through the reading of the Word of God and through prayer.

If we follow this way, this road, then our days will be multiplied and years added to our lives. God will bless our lives as we seek to live out lives out for Him.

13 The woman Folly is loud;
she is seductive[c] and knows nothing.

14 She sits at the door of her house;
she takes a seat on the highest places of the town,
15 calling to those who pass by,
who are going straight on their way,
16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
And to him who lacks sense she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet,
and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that the dead[d] are there,
that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

Folly might at times look smart but really knows nothing. Often times it is the people who are not wise whom are the loudest. Learn to listen. Is there substance and wisdom to what the other person is saying, or are they just making a bunch of noise, deceiving people in the process. The foolish person makes adultery and things stolen look good. NEWSFLASH: Sin is fun…. in the moment but as Solomon points out, in the end it leads to death. While pleasure might be there for a moment the pain is far greater and last much longer than if you had just listened to wisdom speak and acted in wisdom not in being stupid. Many would save themselves lots of pain and heartache if they would just listen to the wisdom of God and others first.

Moral of the story. Listen and pursue God. Listen to the wise council of others.  Live an AWESOME Life.
