The book of Proverbs is all about wisdom and how to find and apply it. Chapter two can be broken down into three main Parts.
Part 1 encourages us to treasure after God’s Word, wisdom, and understanding. He urges us to seek after that as we would a hidden treasure. If we search for it like that the we will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Part 2 points us to where all wisdom comes from and that it all comes from God. He is the one who gives us wisdom, knowledge and understanding. This highlights the need for us to spend time in the Word of God if we want to gain wisdom and guidance in our lives. Solomon also points out that God is our shield, guards us and watches over all His saints.
Part 3 is the practical outpouring of the wisdom that comes from God. God teaches us how to stay away from evil, pick good friends, stay away from the adulterous woman, and how to follow God.
God desires for us to be wise in our decisions but we need to desire this wisdom from God as we would a buried treasure.
Do we desire God’s Word above treasure? Do we seek wisdom from God?
May we treasure and desire the wisdom that only comes from God and His Word.
