Words have a huge affect on how we respect others and how they respect us. Words, pitch, tone of voice and more communicate to others about how you respect them. Which in turn affects the way they respect you. Colossians 4:6a “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt.”
So in that regard how do our words reflect respect in our conversations? As Paul in Colossians teaches us, our conversations should be uplifting and building one another up.
As you go about your day and your week we should strive to be encourager others. In the past I have been amazed at the relationships that have been affected by my words both good and bad. And when I have shown respect in my words, it went a long way in building respect and rapport on their side.
So ask yourself today:
- Am I approaching people with respect in the way I use my words?
- Who do I have the hardest time respecting?
- How can I use my words, and tone of voice differently to show respect to them?
- Who can I encourage today?
What are your thoughts about respect?
