The 5th chapter of proverbs contains two major thought patterns. The first is the listening and obeying the wisdom of God. “My son, be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding, that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge.” (Proverbs 5:1, 2 ESV) we are told to listen to the wisdom and understanding of God. Wisdom is practical in its application to our daily lives. If you want to be wise you must first learn to listen and apply the wisdom of God to your lives.
The second major thought pattern described in this passage is; to stay away from the adulterous woman. “Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless, lest strangers take their fill of your strength, and your labors go to the house of a foreigner, and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed, and you say, “How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof” (Proverbs 5:8-12 ESV)
His point during this section is to say beware and stay away for the adulterous woman.one characteristic is that they lie and flirt to attract the men. We as men go as close as we can to that door. Solomon is saying go far away from that door. If you know where that person or temptation. Is going to be, then stay far away from it. This might mean, no tv or computer in your bedroom, not having Internet access without accountability. The average age of men who look at their first porn is 11 years old. Put an Internet block on the device, such as Safe Eyes or XXX Church. These are programs made to help men and women in their struggle.
The chapter ends with an encouragement for men to stay physical with their wives to help avoid temptation as well as to stay true and faithful to their wives. What most young people need to realize is that this starts with your actions as an early teenager. Who you are before dating and marriage will most likely be how you are after marriage. If you are a flirt before, you will be a flirt after. Be careful, listen to wisdom, stay true to your current or future wife. If you are listening to the wisdom of God then God will help and guide you to help you resist the temptation.
Listen to God and beware of the adulterous woman.
