The chapter7 of Proverbs begins by Solomon challenging his son to keep God’s Words, to follow them and to cherish them. He then concludes his introduction by stating this,
“4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, 5 to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.”
With these few words gives the answer to how to avoid the temptation of committing adultery and also with a warning to keep away. We live in a society were around 50% of all marriages end in divorce. Pornography is on the rise in a huge way and not just among men but almost 30% women also look at porn. The average age that a person first sees pornography is around 11 years old maybe even younger.
With this in mind let us look at some quick points of warnings that this scripture gives us.
1. Stay clear of danger. Solomon observes a young man going near to the house of the prostitute and mentions that he lacks any sense. We could spend all day on this point. Listen, if it looks like trouble or you know trouble comes from being around there or on that site, STAY AWAY. Don’t go near that person, that website, or put yourself near temptation. Application, keep the computer in an open place (NOT IN YOUR BEDROOM) and that has a filter or accountability app on it.
2. Stay away from the person that flirts A LOT and that dresses and acts like a promiscuous person. Example, if it looks like a dog, barks like a dog, and smells like a dog, it is probably a dog.
3. Watch for the smooth and enticing words. Just because it sounds good does not mean that it is. Just because it sounds like you could get away with it does not mean that you will.
4. Those ways lead to death. “22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a stag is caught fast 23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.” Pornography, sex outside of marriage and adultery will lead you to death or trouble. Just because you can get away with something for a time does not mean that you will not be found out. There are consequences for you actions. In this case they are always physical, spiritual and emotional. The media tries to convey that you can sleep around with whoever you want without consequences but that is not the full story. There is a lot of trouble, trials, and heartache that accompanies this.
Danger: Stay away from the immoral and hold fast to the Word of God and the Wisdom that comes from it.
